Y11 Key Information and Dates

2025-03-18T10:08:59+00:00

Our Year 11 students are now on the final straight of their time with the College and they will be moving onto the next phase of their time in employment, education or training. All students, except specific students identified for early study leave, are expected in school full time for the initial few weeks of the exams. This is to enable the school to support the students more effectively as they become accustomed to the process. During this time students will either be in a scheduled examination or will attend their normal timetabled lessons where they will be supported to prepare [...]

Learning Journeys and Communicating what is being learnt during the year

2025-03-11T09:52:16+00:00

During the recent Year 10 Parents’ Evening many parents and carers completed a short survey providing the school with some feedback. Thank you to everyone who completed and submitted that survey. One question referred to the school making you aware of what your child is learning during the year. Based on the response to that question I thought it would be useful to point you in the direction of where that information is available to all parents and carers. To support parents and carers awareness of what their child is learning during the year the school has a detailed “Learning Journey” [...]

Year 7 Parents Evening Arrangements Thursday 27th March 2025

2025-03-11T09:48:41+00:00

We are planning to enable the Parents’ Evening to be a hybrid of in person and video calls via School Cloud. This is in response to parental feedback that the option of video calls was very much appreciated, whilst the majority would prefer to be in person. To enable this to work effectively we have blocked together the appointment opportunities: Video appointments will be between 4 – 4.30pm, In person appointments will be between 4.35 – 6.55pm. We are unable to do video appointments outside of the designated time due to the normal logistics of a Parents’ Evening. The school utilises [...]

Basic Equipment and School Uniform Expectations

2025-02-14T10:01:49+00:00

I am afraid that I am seeking your help again. As you know, school uniform is a compulsory part of life here. All students need it as ambassadors of the College and, more seriously, if they don’t respect this rule, it is easier for them to disrespect the other rules essential in a large organisation. We can only do this effectively with the support of all parents and carers. On our return to school after half term, we will have a number of uniform and equipment checks across all year groups. Those students without either basic equipment or the required uniform [...]

School Lockdown Practice

2024-10-08T09:13:18+01:00

Enhancing safety in our school At the Community College we take safeguarding and safety very seriously. It is important that we continue to review all our procedures, taking into account even those events that are very unlikely to occur. As part of this process, we have a procedure called “lockdown”. The need to use this procedure is rare, to put this into context in the last 6 years the school has only needed to implement this procedure once. We will be practicing this procedure on Friday 18th October.  What is a lockdown and when would we carry it out? A lockdown [...]

KS4 Information Evening – 26th September 2024 at 6.00 pm

2024-09-19T08:52:22+01:00

Why bother with revision? Effective revision can make all the difference when preparing for an exam, not only helping retain knowledge, but also reducing anxiety. We would like to invite you to a short presentation on Thursday 26th of September at 6pm, where we will run through the strategies you can use to give your child the best possible grounding for their exams. Many current Year 11 parents and students may have attended this session last year but this should not dissuade you from attending again to reinforce the information and strategies we are covering. "Parental support is eight times more [...]

Macechu School Partnership

2024-09-19T08:27:40+01:00

In July of the last academic year 17 students and 3 staff from the Community College visited our partner school Macechu Secondary School in Tanga, Tanzania.  We had a wonderful, welcoming and enlightening visit.  We saw at first-hand how the money raised last autumn by students and families at the Community College has improved the lives and prospects of so many young Tanzanians.  In the last year we provided funds to enable 60 of the poorest students to access education, through providing uniform, stationary and other school equipment. We provided funds to safely accommodate two young girls who were at risk of [...]
