Introduction
During Key stage 4, all students will study the compulsory subjects of English, Maths and Science, along with non-examined Physical Education and IAG/PSHE based lessons.
In addition to these compulsory subjects, all students will study 4 optional subjects.
The links below will allow students to look at the range of different subjects that we offer at key stage 4 and the different requirements, expectation and course structures involved in each of these subjects.
Should your child have any queries, then we encourage them to make contact directly with the relevant subject teacher to ask any questions regarding the course that they are interested in.

- 6th February 2026 – Deadline for Submission of Options Forms
Step 1 – Straw Poll
Initially students complete a ‘Straw Poll‘. Details will be emailed to all Year 9 students on Friday 5th December 2025.
This form lists all the subjects available, and asks that your child indicates 6 possible subjects they would like to study, this includes two ‘reserve’ options. All students will ultimately study 4 optional subjects. All students must select a minimum of one subject from History, Geography, French and Spanish. They may also, if they wish to, select more than one of these.
The “Straw Poll” needs to be completed by Friday 12th December 2025.
Step 2 – Options Blocks
Option blocks are then constructed in a manner that accommodates, as best we can, the choices of the students, whilst considering any timetabling
and staffing restrictions. It is unlikely that all students will attain their top four choices, hence the need for flexibility in thinking by students and a clear idea of their own priorities.
Courses are not guaranteed to run at any stage as this will depend on the number of students wishing to study a subject. Equally some subjects may have limited places.
Step 3 – Make Choices
The options booklet is available to give the full information about the subjects and the next steps from the 12th January 2026.
It should be noted though the option blocks are unlikely to be the same each year, as each cohort of students indicates different priorities from the straw poll:

The final confirmation of courses will happen after Easter, when a letter will be sent home.
