We are unable to do video appointments outside of the designated time due to the normal logistics of a Parents’ Evening. The school utilises [...]

School Closure on Friday 9th January due to Weather Conditions

I am sure that you are aware of the weather conditions that are expected across the country from Thursday evening through to Friday morning. The local authority has cancelled all school transport on Friday 9th January due to the expected conditions. As a result the school will be closed on Friday  9th January to all students and staff. Students will be set remote learning for the day according to their timetable. They will be able to access this via Go4Schools. We hope that conditions are more settled by Monday for us to return to school as normal. In the meantime please stay [...]

Enhancing safety in our school – Lockdown Practice

At the Community College we take safeguarding and safety very seriously. It is important that we continue to review all our procedures, taking into account even those events that are very unlikely to occur. As part of this process, we have a procedure called “lockdown”. The need to use this procedure is rare, to put this into context in the last 6 years the school has only needed to implement this procedure once. We will be practicing this procedure on Thursday 6th November.  What is a lockdown and when would we carry it out? A lockdown procedure is a standard health [...]

Y11 Key Information and Dates

Our Year 11 students are now on the final straight of their time with the College and they will be moving onto the next phase of their time in employment, education or training. All students, except specific students identified for early study leave, are expected in school full time for the initial few weeks of the exams. This is to enable the school to support the students more effectively as they become accustomed to the process. During this time students will either be in a scheduled examination or will attend their normal timetabled lessons where they will be supported to prepare [...]

Learning Journeys and Communicating what is being learnt during the year

During the recent Year 10 Parents’ Evening many parents and carers completed a short survey providing the school with some feedback. Thank you to everyone who completed and submitted that survey. One question referred to the school making you aware of what your child is learning during the year. Based on the response to that question I thought it would be useful to point you in the direction of where that information is available to all parents and carers. To support parents and carers awareness of what their child is learning during the year the school has a detailed “Learning Journey” [...]

Basic Equipment and School Uniform Expectations

I am afraid that I am seeking your help again. As you know, school uniform is a compulsory part of life here. All students need it as ambassadors of the College and, more seriously, if they don’t respect this rule, it is easier for them to disrespect the other rules essential in a large organisation. We can only do this effectively with the support of all parents and carers. On our return to school after half term, we will have a number of uniform and equipment checks across all year groups. Those students without either basic equipment or the required uniform [...]
