The Community College operates a homework policy that supports our belief in the importance of study beyond the classroom. Homework is integral to the curriculum and forms an important part of the overall learning process. The amount of homework set will depend on the number of lessons that students have each week in the subject.
Students will be set homework in a way that is judged to be most beneficial to their learning by their class teacher. This may mean little and often, or may mean an extended piece that lasts over a number of weeks. The purpose of homework is as a means of embedding and furthering subject knowledge and skills.
We use Go4Schools to set homework to students, giving details of tasks, deadlines and support materials where relevant. Students and parents have access to this information either via the Go4Schools website, or via the Go4Schools app.
The basic principles we apply to homework are:
- Teachers are expected to set meaningful and relevant work that reinforces, extends or enriches the curriculum experience for students.
- Students are expected to complete all homework set to the very best of their ability, and certainly by the deadline.
- Parents are requested to support their children in the successful completion of homework, by monitoring the homework set on Go4Schools and by establishing a ‘homework routine’.

Some students may need additional support with homework, or a quiet place in which to complete their work. The school library is open after school until 4.30 pm Monday to Thursday and students may attend and receive support with their tasks.
