Intent of the Geography Curriculum
Geography enables our students to:
- Foster a curiosity of the world,
- Make connections with the rest of the world and have a strong sense of place, celebrating differences and diversity,
- Ask questions and problem solve,
- Develop a variety of skills that will support them in school and in life beyond the classroom and become a global citizen.
- Describe, explain and evaluate using subject specific vocabulary.
- Extract and analyse information from sources and make judgements based on the evidence presented.
Implementation of the Geography Curriculum
We encourage our students to;
- Build on knowledge and understanding and skills over time, using relevant and current context (literacy and numeracy is embedded).
- We have clear expectations around what the students will know and be able to do with their geographical knowledge and skills (these are assessed) so they are responsible and respectful.
- We support students to be confident, resilient and independent, for example, planning and engaging in fieldwork opportunities.
Impact of the Geography Curriculum
Students do well in geography. They are clear on where they are at and what they need to do to improve (results and feedback).
- They enjoy their lessons and the broad themes and topics covered (student voice) and the variety of teaching methods used.
- They are aware of local and global issues, and their environmental impact, for example, the links formed with Macechu School, Tanzania.
