In addition to the timetabled curriculum lessons that all students have here at the Community College, we also provide a fortnightly ‘Enrichment’ afternoon for all students. This is a wonderful enhancement to our curriculum, when all staff and students take part in a variety of activities which are chosen to allow students to broaden their knowledge, skills and experience. As students move into Year 10, the opportunity for this to be centered around the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award (run by Mr Kirk and Miss Jones) gives students the prospect of developing these further within the volunteering, skills, physical and expedition elements of the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
Enrichment for all students across Key Stage 3 falls into three categories, with students completing a single term in each of these areas,
1. Physical and Healthy Living Enrichment
2. Cultural, Ethical and Moral Enrichment
3. Community/Personal Development/Environmental Enrichment
Our incoming Year 8 Students (current Year 7) will undertake the programme in this order across the three terms starting with Physical and Healthy Living Enrichment in September.
We have a number of opportunities for our students in the third category and students will be assigned an activity for completing in Year 8. Where possible, we hope for students to work towards a
recognisable achievement, performance or award in each area.
The exceptions to this are that a small number of students can select from one of the following activities:
a. Horse Riding
– Two term programme (Term 1 and 3) – Horse riding at Bow House- if you have your own pony/horse and can transport it to Bow House (£20 per session)
– One term programme (Term 3 Only) – Horse riding at Walcot stables for those students who don’t own their own horse, limited spaces, return transport provided from school
(£18.00 per session).
b. Music Group (Term 3 Only)
c. Girls Football (Term 3 Only)
d. Mental Health Ambassador Training (Term 3 Only)
If your child would like to be involved in one of these activities, then please complete the following online form (CLICK HERE) to confirm interest (no places are guaranteed at this stage) – for the optional activities listed above, we will then send further information and activity/permission letters where appropriate.
The deadline for submission of this online form will be 11am Monday July 11th 2022.
Alternatively, students will be allocated a space on the remaining activities, these may include:
• Woodland, Bushcraft and Conservation Skills
• Science CREST Award
• Young Engineers/Upcycling Project
• Investigative Journalism and Media
• Natural History of Bishops Castle – its geology, its wildlife, its past and its future
• Botany
Should students not be assigned the activity they hoped for in Year 8, they will have further opportunity in Year 9.
